Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about therapy and counselling
If this is your first time considering therapy, it’s completely normal to have questions. I’ve answered some of the most common ones below. If something isn’t covered here, you’re welcome to get in touch via the Contact page.
Can you make an appointment for me?
The easiest way to make an appointment is by booking online. You can choose a date and time that suits you, and you’ll receive a confirmation email once your booking is complete.
If this is your first appointment, you’ll also receive an information letter and an online intake form to complete prior to your session.
Do you charge a cancellation fee?
Yes. Appointments cancelled with less than two business days’ notice incur the full session fee.
For example, if your appointment is scheduled for 9am on a Monday, cancellations must be made by 9am on the previous Thursday to avoid a cancellation fee. The full fee also applies for missed appointments.
Are appointments confidential?
Yes. Sessions are private and confidential.
There are limited exceptions to confidentiality, including situations where there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person, or where records are legally required to be released, such as through a court subpoena.
As a clinical psychologist, I am bound by professional and ethical standards set by the Australian Psychological Society and the Psychology Board of Australia.
How do you store client notes?
Client records are stored securely using a professional practice management system called Halaxy.
All health information is stored electronically and protected using secure systems, encryption, and access controls consistent with Australian privacy requirements.
How often do I need to attend therapy?
This varies from person to person. Initially, sessions are often scheduled weekly or fortnightly, depending on what you’re working on.
We’ll discuss goals and recommended frequency during your first session. I may offer suggestions, but you remain in control of how often you attend. Some people attend therapy for a specific, time-limited focus, while others engage in longer-term work.
How long will therapy take?
The length of therapy depends on a range of factors, including the issues you’re addressing, how helpful you find the process, and how actively you’re able to engage between sessions.
You decide how long therapy continues. You’re welcome to attend for as long as you feel it is beneficial.
Do you bulk bill?
No. All sessions are privately billed. Bulk billing is not available.
How does relationship counselling begin?
Relationship counselling begins with a structured Gottman Method Relationship Assessment Day.
This process provides a comprehensive understanding of the relationship before ongoing couples therapy commences. It helps identify strengths, areas of concern, and key patterns so that therapy is focused and effective from the outset.
Do you offer ongoing couples therapy after the assessment?
Yes. Ongoing couples therapy follows the Gottman Method assessment process and is guided by the findings and recommendations that emerge from that day.
What approach do you use in relationship counselling?
Relationship counselling is informed by the Gottman Method, a research-based approach to understanding relationship dynamics, communication patterns, and emotional connection.
