Helping people live a mindful life
What is Mindfulness Training?
Mindfulness training is a powerful therapeutic intervention teaching people to be present in the here and now. The goal is to retrain the brain by bringing awareness back to what's happening in the moment, involving the five senses.
How does Mindfulness Training work?
Mindfulness training empowers people by focusing their attention on what's happening right now instead of concentrating on the past or future.
Learning the skill to be present and aware counteracts the tendency to live in the past or worry about what might happen in the future.
Used in combination with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness Training is effective for treating:
- Sleep difficulties
- Bipolar disorder
- Chronic pain
Short history of Mindfulness Training
Mindfulness has a long history, dating back thousands of years to the Buddhist tradition. A man named Jon Kabat-Zinn introduced it to the Western world during the 1980s as an alternative to manage illness and stress. Today, it is popular around the world and used to treat a variety of conditions.
